Transportation Secretary Tony Tata on Cold Storage

North Carolina Department of Transportation Secretary Tony Tata discussed the departments top priorities for the year. Among this list, he specifically mentions USA InvestCo and the development of the Port of Wilmington Cold Storage project.

RALEIGH — It’s a big year ahead for the Department of Transportation. In a board meeting Thursday, new Transportation Secretary Tony Tata outlined his top priorities for 2013.

NC Exports Hit Record High

NC exports hit a record high of $14.8 Billion USD, in the first half of 2012.  North Carolina merchandise exports increased by 6 percent in the first half of 2013, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA).

NC Ranks 5th in Nation for Chinese Investment Dollars

North Carolina ranked the 5th-largest state in the Nation for Chinese investment, according to a recent article from the Triangle Business Journal.  Chinese Investment in NC follows only investment in California, New York, Texas and Illinois. North Carolina attracts Chinese investment dollars largely thanks to connections through the state’s universities. The article also details the pending sale of Smithfield Foods to China’s Shuanghui International Holdings Limited, a $5 Billion sale.

Port of Wilmington and Maersk Line Collaboration

Port of Wilmington and Maersk Line, the world’s largest container shipping company, are working together to expand the port’s global market. One way that they have done this is by encouraging companies to change their methods of shipping cargo to South America. These companies are now using more efficient methods of shipping through the Port of Wilmington. Maersk is also adding additional port calls to the South Atlantic Express, which offers service between Port of Wilmington and Latin America. Port of Wilmington NC features Cold Storage Facility

The North Carolina Ports featured an article about the USA InvestCo Cold Storage Facility on their website news section.  The article discusses the partnership between the NC Ports Authority and USA InvestCo and the recent approval of lease terms by the North Carolina Council of State.  It also includes thoughts from State Transportation Secretary Anthony J. Governor Pat McCrory discusses the Port of Wilmington Cold Storage

Governor Pat McCrory delivered his State of the State Address this week, and highlighted the Port of Wilmington Cold Storage Project. McCrory went on to say:

Cold Storage Facility on Wilmington Port

The State has decided to move forward with a partnership with USA InvestCo to construct a cold storage facility on the Port of Wilmington, North Carolina.  USA InvestCo is currently working on plans to build the 75,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse facility with an initial construction cost of roughly $13 Million.
