Contractor Chosen for Cold Storage Facility

The contractor has been chosen for the Cold Storage Facility.  USA InvestCo has chosen Atlanta-based ARCO Design/Build Inc. as its general contractor to build a cold storage facility at the Port of Wilmington.

According to the company’s website, ARCO is a turn-key design/build firm that has undertaken various industrial project types including cold storage, food distribution, tenant improvements, retrofits and light industrial warehouse/distribution.

ARCO project manager Eric Safko said the goal is to break ground in mid-September.

Updated Layouts for PWCold Facility

PWCS featured in Star News

The Port of Wilmington Cold Storage facility was featured in a recent article in the Star News.  The facility is now slated to be roughly 102,000 square feet rather than the initial 75,000 square feet as initially planned.  Principal, Chuck Schoninger, expects the facility to break ground in May of 2014 and be fully operational by January 2015.

Chuck Schoninger named NCFTP Board Member

USA InvestCo Principal Chuck Schoninger has accepted a position on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Foreign Trade Promotion Council.  The organization was spearheaded by state Representative Rick Catlin, and has selected John G. Hayes, PhD as its First Executive Director.  Recently, Dr. Hayes has been the President of the North Carolina World Trade Association, Cape Fear Chapter.

Search for new Ports Authority Executive

Department of Transportation chief Tony Tata, said that the search is on for the new Ports Authority Executive. Tata, visited the Port of Wilmington with Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday, said that, after conducting an international search, officials had narrowed the field of candidates considerably and would begin interviews shortly.

Governor McCrory visits Port of Wilmington

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory toured the Port of Wilmington last week and spoke about the promising future of the NC Ports System.  McCrory met with USA InvestCo and Port of Wilmington Cold Storage principals Charles Schoninger and Chuck McCarthy.  He also visited the sites of the future wood pellet and cold storage facilities.

PWCS Attending the International Production & Processing Expo

Next week, Port of Wilmington Cold Storage Principal Chuck McCarthy will be attending the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta, Georgia. The 2014 IPPE will bring together more than 1,100 exhibitors and over 25,000 attendees in Atlanta from January 28 – 30, 2014.

Wilmington Cold Storage Facility to Create New Jobs

This week, TWC News featured the Port of Wilmington Cold Storage project in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Their article discusses the project costs, job creation, and features and interview with PWCS Principal Chuck McCarthy.
